description
Iron Pulse gives solid steel the feeling of an internal rhythm pushing outward. Compression and physical force reshape the material, creating changes in contour that suggest energy traveling through a dense industrial form. At more than five feet tall, the sculpture has a substantial presence while its transformed surfaces introduce movement and unpredictability. Part of Ian Houghton’s Compression Studies, this contemporary abstract steel sculpture explores pressure, strength, and material transformation through a modern approach to blacksmithing and metal fabrication, revealing a sense of life and movement within seemingly immovable steel.
