Beneath the Surface explores the idea that transformation often begins where we cannot see it. A weathered steel exterior appears to open and reveal polished, compressed forms within, suggesting hidden geology, internal pressure, and material pushing toward the surface. The contrast between rugged steel and reflective metal gives the sculpture a sense of discovery and unexpected energy. Created by Denver based sculptor Ian Houghton, this contemporary abstract steel sculpture reflects his fascination with pressure, erosion, and the ability to transform heavy industrial material into something organic and alive.
