description
Echoes of the Organic explores the unexpected relationship between industrial steel and forms found in nature. Shaped through pressure and transformation, the compact sculpture develops curves and irregularities that feel grown rather than manufactured. Its surface preserves evidence of the forces used to create it, allowing rigid steel to take on a softer, more organic character. Part of Ian Houghton’s Compression Studies, this contemporary abstract steel sculpture reflects his ongoing interest in modern blacksmithing, material transformation, and discovering natural movement within one of the strongest industrial materials.
