PRESSURE LANGUAGE NO. 5
description
Pressure Language No. 5 transforms the strength and permanence of stainless steel into a form that appears unexpectedly soft and fluid. Part of Ian Houghton’s Compression Studies, the sculpture is shaped through intense heat and physical pressure, allowing folds, curves, and irregularities to develop directly from the fabrication process. Its highly polished stainless steel surface captures reflections from the surrounding environment, emphasizing every change in contour and giving the work a constantly shifting visual presence. This contemporary abstract metal sculpture reflects Houghton’s ongoing exploration of modern blacksmithing, forged steel, pressure, movement, and the point where industrial material begins to feel organic.
