FRICTION BLOOM
description
Friction Bloom explores the moment when extreme pressure gives rise to something unexpectedly organic. Standing eight feet tall, the polished stainless steel sculpture appears to expand and emerge from the forces used to shape it, suggesting a bloom created through heat, compression, and resistance rather than growth alone. Its reflective surface changes with light, movement, and surrounding architecture, giving the monumental form a continually evolving presence. Part of Ian Houghton’s Compression Studies, this contemporary stainless steel sculpture combines modern blacksmithing and large scale metal fabrication with an organic sculptural language rooted in transformation.
