PRESSURE LANGUAGE NO. 3
description
Pressure Language No. 3 is a monumental exploration of what happens when extreme force becomes a creative tool. Stainless steel is heated, compressed, and physically transformed, producing folds and distortions that reveal the material responding directly to pressure. Standing more than seven feet tall, the sculpture gives these normally intimate details an architectural presence, while the reflective stainless surface captures changing light and movement from its surroundings. Part of Ian Houghton’s Compression Studies, this contemporary stainless steel sculpture combines modern blacksmithing, large scale metal fabrication, and abstraction to transform dense industrial material into something fluid, expressive, and unexpectedly alive.
